Artist Statement

Throughout this semester in digital photography, we have learned many techniques. From the different modes of a camera to the proper way to captivate art in a picture, Ms. Cook has embedded in us the methods we need to be the best artists we can be.

In my portfolio you will find works of art that depict my strengths and weakness in digital photography. From the beginning of the semester you will see all the different tricks we’ve learned. My portfolio portrays my hard work in this class, which I happen to be very proud of. I’ve learned how to take something from my dreams and put it into reality. I feel that I have learned the ropes of Photoshop very well. I have proof of this through my creative works of art displayed in my portfolio. I’m also good at making myself into an iceberg. In this class I’ve learned that you have to catch on fast in order to comprehend the complexity of the different techniques we learn on a daily basis. At the beginning of the semester I could not dig deep inside my imaginative cavity and pull out something creative. As time progressed, I learned how to take something simple, give it a personal twist, and have confidence in it to produce a marvelous work of art.

As time winds down and we learn different ways to enhance our pictures, we grow as individuals. We become well rounded students who, not only excel in core courses, but can produce outstanding evidence of our imagination.

PERSONAL METAPHOR "I AM FROZEN IN A COLD WORLD"

I AM FROZEN IN A COLD WORLD. I CHOSE THIS METAPHOR BECAUSE IT REPRESENTS HOW I FEEL IN TODAY'S SOCIETY. I MADE MYSELF INTO AN ICE BLOCK TO REPRESENT HOW THE COLD WORLD HAS HAD AN AFFECT ON ME. I FEEL THAT I DID EXCELLENT. I ACTUALLY WORKED ON THIS IN ONE DAY. I DONT THINK I COULDVE DONE ANYTHING BETTER. MY FINAL PRODUCT WAS SUPERB.

SHUTTER SPEED

We decided to mess around with teh shutter speed. Shutter speed is b asically how fast the image is taking before all the light is captured. Our setting was basically our classroom in the dark with minimal light from the other classes. Basically we set the aperture and ISO, the shutter speed was set to 11" and it turned out pretty good on capturing the light. We had alot of fun playing with the pretty colors.

ISO FILM SPEED

ISO comes from the word International Organization for Standardization basically meaning how much light will get into the picture. The more the ISO the more bright and light the picture will be. When using the flash instead of setting the ISO the picture will end up really bright and all well lit but kinda ugly since everything is the same shadowy thing. I woukld rather use the ISO because the result will actually have dept and shadows which are good but we have to be careful since the higher the ISO the steadier the subject has to be.

FILL IN FLASH

Fill in flash is basically when the camera's flash is used to get the shadows and darks out so the subject can be visible and all the darks are flashed out. I highly recommend that the flash should never be used since it ruins the overall photo by making almost everything white and also making people's oily faces show up and also their clogged up pores like OTHER PEOPLE.

Surrealism: Abyssmal Truth

Many might see this project and wonder what is going on. Basically this project is about a dream I had one terrible night. In the dream I was an angel in a very hot place. I think I was by a volcano or a fiery mountaintop. I was flying above a crack in the ground. Hands were reaching for me through the crack, which I believe was the hidden entrance to hell. I chose a random object like a magnifying glass to tie the meaning into the project. I also put bibles into the project to give it a biblical touch. The meaning is no matter how much right you do, sin is still waiting to be done.

Graduation Program

I believe that I did better than most on the graduation program. Looking at other people’s covers made my cover look sort of incomplete. I believe that if I had more time, it would be the best out of all. I could’ve added more visual and artistic effects to my cover. I didn’t know what to put on my cover, so it was very hard to make it look more interesting. The student handbook was easier to create because I know what students like to see. The most important aspects of graphic design are quality and ideas because those two elements are the key to creating the best design. My advice to next year’s students is to make sure they pay attention to Photoshop because they are seriously going to need to know the info.

Alternate Program: Student Handbbok

I believe that I did very well on the student handbook. Looking at other people’s handbooks made my handbook look professionally made. I think that my concept was put into effect better than any body else’s. If I did anything different the outcome wouldn’t be the same. I struggled with time while trying to complete this project. It took me a while to decide what to create. I believe that I did better on the Handbook than on the Graduation cover because I started on the handbook first so I didn’t have enough time.

Effects

I was supposed to pick which picture I liked the most but I couldn't choose between cross process and emphasis. Both of the pictures are amazing to me. What I like about cross process is that many odd colors pop out. What I like about the emphasis picture is that the background makes the photo look absolutely urban. In my opinion, all the pictures are very artistic.

Frames

I like the frame photo with the shadow the best. I like it because it is more artistic than the other photo. The shadow in the bottom picture contrasts black and white perfectly. I could've posed different in both pictures to make them more intertesting. All in all, I think I did pretty well.

Color!

I love my color shots. They are absolutely phenomenal. The color contrasts are perfect. In the future I could have added more colors in the pictures and posed in a myriad of ways.

Group Collaboration

The most difficult thing about taking these photos were getting all the models to cooperate. We all wanted to do different things and pose different. I wouldn't do anything different because our pictures came out really great.
